Editor’s Note:- Overall, Ab roller wheel is a great equipment to train abdominal muscles, but only if we do different types of workouts and form a complete routine. If you only do forward-backward motion, it will just train the upper core muscles. Various ab roller exercises help tone your abs, but they do not help too much with getting rid of the accumulated fat covering the abs. So, just by using a roller you will not get visible abdominal muscles. If you want to lose weight you need to do resistance training, cardio and follow a healthy diet. We recommend this program.

In this article, we review the Ab roller and other ab wheel products.

What makes the Ab Roller unique?

The Ab Roller has been quite popular to help get great abs for anyone and everyone. The forward and backward pushing motion works the transverse abdomens; the girdle of muscles that makes Michelangelo’s David look so outstanding.

As a matter of fact, even a barbell can do exactly the same thing, as can a roller-skate, a skateboard, or even a towel if one has a linoleum floor.

One of my friends shared about his daily ab roller exercise routine. He spent at least 30 minutes, nearly every day, but after 3-4 months he hardly saw any results. He even had lower back and neck pain.

After talking to him, I realized that he did only simple crunches (watch the above video at 1:20) and the way he did was incorrect.

I am sure there are many others who use the ab roller inefficiently and improperly.

Most people buy this tool thinking that it is a magic wand that will get them six pack abs without doing anything, and in no time! Nothing can work this way!

It is great equipment to train abdominal muscles, but only if we do different types of workouts and form a complete routine. If you only do crunches, it will just train the upper core muscles.

In addition, it is important to use your roller correctly to avoid back and neck pain.

The roller helps to control the movements and hold your head, but you should also maintain correct posture while doing the exercises. It is crucial to maintain the position of your shoulders and neck. Ideally, you should keep your spine straight.

Do a stretching warm up before and after the training. I also recommend putting a fitness mat on the floor to make it a more comfortable experience.

I also use my ab roller for my core abdominal routine, but it is not the only way I train my midsection.

I believe, to have a flat stomach, a wide variety of exercises must be utilized to form a routine both with and without tools.

Another important point to remember is, if you want to get a toned stomach, doing ab exercises is not enough. You must work at burning belly fat by eating correctly and keeping a check on your daily calorie intake.

Benefits of Ab roller

Abdominal crunches are suggested by most of the trainers, as it is a great way to train and tone the core muscles. Unfortunately, many people do these ab exercises improperly. They usually complain about strains and other injuries, mainly in their neck and lower back.

Ab roller is a special, home fitness equipment, which helps in doing crunches correctly. It has a special structure which holds the neck and the head in proper position; protecting them while the motion is done.

The whole movement is controlled, making the crunches more efficient.

Overall, it is an easy to use and effective equipment to train the upper part of the abdomens and to tone abdominal muscles.

There are many different products available in the market to choose from. Apart from the difference in price there isn’t any big difference in the products available.

Which is the best available Ab Roller?

My answer would most definitely be the Ab Carver Pro.

Because it is more than just a simple ab roller! It allows us to train the whole abs precisely and without causing strain and no-slippery handles.

Also, it costs just a little bit more than the other abdominal exercise machines in the same line of products.

What makes it different? Because of its special ergonomic structure, it supports your neck, head and your whole upper body to avoid injuries and strains caused by improper or fast movements.

It strengthens the core muscles effectively; mainly the upper and center rectus abdomens. With some alternative exercises you can also train the obliques.

User Reviews

I found Ab Carver Pro to be a great equipment to train upper abdomen effectively. It allowed me to do forward-backward motion helping me train my abs. I did not feel any pain in my neck; which is really good. Since now I am a more advanced trainer, I will not be using it for dipping or pushups. However, for women or for beginners it is really useful.

Ab Roller Workouts: Using Crunches along with ab roller wheel

In the above videos, you can see the various kinds of ab roller workouts possible.

Crunches are the best way to train the upper part of the abdominal. For example, if you hold it higher it trains upper parts better and if you hold it lower it works on lower abs and obliques.

A combination of crunches with hip-raising can help train your hamstrings and legs.

Side Crunches

This is one of my personal favorites for training my obliques; being my weakest points. The cross arm method is really efficient; I always feel burning pain on my sides, proving its efficiency. This exercise only works if your control your body and do the motion appropriately.

Leg Raises

I’ve said this time and again that leg raises are my favorite workouts. They are always included in my training plan. As you see, you can combine crunches and leg raises; it is a really complex way to train the entire abdominal area. If you are on a higher level, always use this combination- a real killer but highly effective!

Conclusion

If you do not have time, money or energy to go to a gym for abdominal workouts, an ab roller is a great and cheap tool. If you follow the videos above and do this routine at least 3 times a week, along with maintaining a proper diet, you will soon notice great changes in your body.
